Matthew Dudek - Thoroughly Modern Millie

Here is Matthew’s setup from a production of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Milford High School in Milford, Michigan.

“This is an excellent high school program I've worked with in the past and for whom I always enjoy drumming. Their production of Millie was certainly a favorite of mine as the show is a lot of fun to play. It is half Big Band and half Broadway and the show gives the drummer plenty of chances to open up and play, as well as opportunities to create great musical and theatrical moments. I'm very big into colors especially when it comes to cymbals. For this show I used:

14" Zildjian K High Definition Hi Hats
8" Zildjian A Splash
18" Zildjian K Custom Dark Crash
20" Zildjian Oriental Crash of Doom
18" Zildjian K Custom Session Ride
10" Zildjian K Custom Splash
14” Zildjian K Mini China

For drums I was playing a Gretsch Catalina Club with an 18" bass drum, 10" tom and a 14" floor tom. My snare is a DW Collectors Series 10+6 Maple Snare - a 10-ply drum with a 6-ply reinforcement hoop and 60-degree bearing edge.

For sticks I used the Mike Balter - Louie Bellson Stick Brush, Zildjian Travis Barker Double Stick Mallet, Vic Firth Steve Smith Tala Wands and my main stick is the Vic Firth SD4.

The other toys and sounds include a Treeworks Tre35db Double Row Classic Chime, ratchet, cowbells, LP Granite Blocks, and a hotel call bell. And what percussion set up would be complete without a Miller Machine?!? This was the first show I had one, and man, was it awesome!

This isn't a terribly difficult show, but a lot of fun to play. Full of dance numbers, jazz sections like the ‘Nuttycracker Suite’ and some nice Broadway moments. It's always a great show to play.”
